January 30, 2012 - ROTARY INTERNATIONAL WINS 2,488,070 CHARITY MILES FROM UNITED AIRLINES Rotary International came in second place in voting best charity and won 2,488,070 frequent flyer charity miles from United Airlines' 10 Million Charity Miles Giveaway. Rotarians around the world will use the miles for humanitarian missions, such as transporting sick children to hospitals. One club used these donated miles to bring an Iraqi woman to the United States for needed therapy after she lost the use of both her legs in an explosion during her honeymoon, where her husband was killed.
January 29, 2012 - MORAGA ROTARY'S NITE AT THE RACES TO BE HELD MARCH 10, 2012 Tickets are available for Moraga Rotary's annual fundraiser "Nite at the Races", to be held Saturday, March 10th at Holy Trinity Cultural Center, 1700 School Street in Moraga. Enjoy dinner, Dixieland music, a raffle, silent auction, plus wager on video taped horse races for play money and prizes. Gates open at 5:30 PM with dinner served at 7:00 PM. January 28, 2012 - MORAGA ROTARY ANNOUNCES EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH AWARD Moraga Rotary Club has announced their Employee of the Month program, intended to recognize an employee of a Moraga business who has exhibited superior customer service and contributed in a significant manner to the success and/or mission to their company, agency, school or other business entity. Businesses can nominate their employee by printing the Nomination Form and submitting it to Moraga Rotary or the Moraga Chamber of Commerce. Monthly winners will be given $100 worth of local gift certificates compliments of Moraga Rotary at an award luncheon during a weekly Rotary meeting.
July 16, 2011: MORAGA MUSTANGS TAKE 4TH PLACE IN ROTARY BOCCE BALL CONTEST The team "Moraga Mustangs" took 4th place in the Rotary Bocce Ball contest held Saturday, July 16th in Martinez, against a total of 52 teams from Rotary and Interact clubs in the area. This team was one of 5 teams that Moraga Rotary sent to the competition this year. The winning team members were Vickie Devlin, Peg Render, Debbie Roessler and Lou Roessler. The other four teams competed with vigor, but were unsuccessful in winning a trophy. Congratulations to the winning team, bringing home a trophy for the club.
July 1, 2011: NEW MORAGA ROTARY PRESIDENT The Rotary Club of Moraga welcomed their new President for the year 2011-12. Nora Avelar, age 29, became the youngest president of the Moraga club and of the northern California District 5160 clubs, which comprises 69 Rotary clubs up the coast to Oregon. Nora was inducted at the Demotion Dinner of outgoing president Tony Schoemehl. She introduced her new board members that will serve with her during the 2011-12 year. In her coronation speech she stated her focus this year is to promote literacy in Moraga and in neighboring communities such as Richmond and at Juvenile Hall in Martinez, through donations such as much needed books in their libraries, and projects promoting reading programs.
June 8, 2011: RHEEM SWEEPS FIELD DAY Moraga Rotary held its 20th annual Field Day at JM School, a track and field event for every 3rd, 4th and 5th grader in Moraga schools. Rheem School swept the event with the most total point awards of all the school competing. Rotarian Al Simonsen ran the event and made the annual presentations of the winners of the 20th Annual Rotary Field Day during the club's June 14th meeting: High Point Girl – NINA MUNSON, 3rd grade, Rheem High Point Boy – DANNY NELSON, 5th grade, Rheem (tie) High Point Boy – MARK McCURDY, 3rd grade, Rheem (tie) High Point Class – JOAN CARASKA’S 3RD grade, Rheem High Point School - RHEEM , ELAINE FRANK, Principal The appropriate plaques were presented to the winners and all of the plaques will be displayed at Rheem School.
June 1, 2011: FIELD DAY POSTPONED ONE WEEK Moraga Rotary's annual Track and Field Day has been postponed until next Wednesday, June 8, 2011.
May 28, 2011: ODYSSEY OF THE MIND TEAMS WIN WORLD COMPETITIONS! The two Moraga Rotary Campolindo High School Odyssey of the Mind teams that won first place in the State championships went on to the World Finals held at University of Maryland. Moraga Rotary Team A competed against 39 teams in the problem "As Good As Goldberg", finishing only 1 point out of 344 points being tied for first place. In addition, this team won the coveted Ranatra Fusca Award for showing phenomenal creativity and risk-taking. Moraga Rotary Team B competed against 37 other teams in the problem "Extreme Mousemobiles" and finished in 10th place. Both teams competed against teams from the countries of Poland, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, India, Germany, Russia, Mexico and Canada.
April 23, 2011: MORAGA E-WASTE RECYCLING EVENT Moraga Rotary will hold its 4th E-Waste Recycling Event at the Moraga Shopping Center , 1355 Moraga Way, next to McCaulous Department Store. See flyer for all the details.
Jan. 27, 2010: TOWN COUNCIL PROCLAIMS THANKS! The Moraga Town Council announced a proclamation of thank to the Moraga Rotary Club for their efforts in removing the old Commons Playground structure, and helping install the new play structure. The club volunteered their time and money to label the structure, disassemble and remove the structure, palletize the pieces, and ship them to a Rotary Club in Mexico that will refurbish it and install it as a gift to their community's children.
